Brooklyn Arts Fund
Each year, Brooklyn Arts Council regrants hundreds of thousands of dollars in funding to 501(c)(3) organizations and individual artists all across the borough. A Brooklyn Arts Fund grant is so much more than monetary support. It is an opportunity to connect with mentors, training, and future creative collaborators.
About this Grant
In 2023, Brooklyn Arts Fund distributed $592,000 to 136 projects across Brooklyn.
Funded by the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA), this money is for arts and cultural projects that contribute to creative experiences for audiences in Brooklyn. The best proposals share how the project will impact the cultural life of their audience and community.
Grantee Highlights
Kendra J. Ross & STooPs
Brooklyn Arts Fund | Multi-Disciplinary | 2022
STooPS is a multi-disciplinary, outdoor, community building event in Bed-Stuy that invites artists to showcase their work in (un)conventional neighborhood spaces. Using the arts as a catalyst, STooPS is a premiere opportunity for neighbors to discover, share, build partnerships and support each other, thereby fortifying the entire community. During the STooPS off-season, Founder Kendra J. Ross offers workshops on STooPS’ methodology and community engagement processes. Funds from those workshops go towards funding the Annual Art Crawl.
Loki Circus Theater
Brooklyn Arts Fund | Multi-Disciplinary | 2022
Loki Circus Theater combines aerial acrobatics, music, contemporary dance, and narrative, taking audiences on a chaotic thrill-ride of spectacular stunts and breathtaking movement. Loki Circus Theater’s ongoing project The Rainbow is Enuf tells the stories of seven individuals through circus, dance, and original text. The Rainbow is Enuf is a modern reworking of an American-theatre classic into a contemporary circus show that illuminates and inspires everyone through the focused lens of the experiences of women of color.
Nzingah Oyo
Brooklyn Arts Fund | Visual Arts | 2022
Nzingah Oyo is an American born, Brooklyn-based visual artist, photographer, and curator. For over two decades she has created images pivotal to the Muslim woman. More specifically, cultural tensions/blends of Islam, American, and African culture. Oyo’s Le Grande Boubou (The Grand Dress) subtly reveals the beauty and tradition of West African women and culture. The series allows the audience to experience the beauty of traditions that continue to thrive even while living a NYC immigrant experience. It also provides an opportunity for discussion around culture and identity in our city.
