What We Do
For over 50 years, Brooklyn Arts Council has supported Brooklyn's artists; we have helped create one of the most eclectic and innovative cities in the world.
Our work is activated in three spheres of Catalytic Impact: We champion Creative Experiences because we believe in art's power; we amplify expression, enrichment, and diversity by empowering artists and audiences in art making, art-sharing, and art-learning. We nurture Creative Ecologies because we know that artists and communities thrive when they are connected to one another. We solve Creative Equations because we envision a world innovated by art; we advocate for sustainable development strategies that include art, artists, and arts institutions to optimize social innovations and solutions to inequity.
Grants
Brooklyn Arts Council's grants strive to support local artists and small arts organizations whose work enhances the cultural climate of our borough, city, and state; their work is proudly local and internationally influential. These awards encourage professional development, community growth, and fellowship among artists.
Wellness Studio
BAC Wellness Studio builds on our mission of empowering artists with a focus on what artists need to be healthy and how artists contribute to the holistic thriving of Brooklyn communities; the well-being of Brooklyn’s artists is fundamental to the prosperity and spirit of Brooklyn.
Professional development
Brooklyn Innovation Institute is Brooklyn Arts Council's professional development platform connecting voices and insights to drive creative development and build cultural assets. Equipping and nurturing Creatives and Cultural Entrepreneurs. Brooklyn Innovation Institute programs are also activated in our spheres of Catalytic Impact:
Creative Experiences: Enhancing skills related to making, teaching, sharing, and experiencing art.
Creative Ecologies: Bolstering sustainability through entrepreneurship, empowerment, and connection to community resources.
Creative Equations: Providing forums to civically inspire and teach strategies for arts-driven social innovation.
Arts in Education
Our Arts in Education (AIE) programs foster creativity and artistic expression for K-12 students, parents, and community members through a broad range of disciplines that represent Brooklyn's diversity and excellence in dance, digital media, theater, visual, and literary arts.
cultural heritage
Brooklyn Arts Council's Cultural Heritage program works with artists in traditional cultural practices to preserve and present arts expressive of the borough's diverse living heritage – music and song, storytelling, social dance, foodways, material culture, and more.
ON-DEMAND PROGRAMMING
We pride ourselves on providing Brooklyn's artists and art workers with readily accessible tools for creative, financial, and professional growth.
