Brooklyn Arts Council’s Arts in Education invites dynamic, experienced and creative Teaching Artists for after-school and in-school residencies in New York City public and private schools, Kindergarten through high school.

 

ABOUT

We host programming at schools throughout Brooklyn, largely November-June, after school and during school hours. Applicants do not need to live in Brooklyn but must have the ability to travel to Brooklyn.

BAC employs Teaching Artists that work in (but not limited to) the following disciplines:

  • Visual Arts – Mural, Painting, Sculpture, Air-Dry Clay Techniques, Collage, etc.

  • Digital Media - Animation, Photography, Website Design, etc.

  • Theatre - Puppetry, Playwriting, Devising, etc.

  • Vocal Music - Chorus, Musical Theatre, etc.

  • Instrumental Music - Beginning Instruments, African Drumming, Rock band, etc.

  • Dance - Hip Hop, Jazz/ contemporary, International/Folk genres, etc.

  • Literary - Storytelling, Graphic Novels, Poetry, etc.

Through our residencies, BAC provides and promotes quality arts education programs that:

  • Foster creativity and imagination

  • Expand verbal and non-verbal communication skills

  • Enhance capacities for critical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Fortify social-emotional skills

  •  Support student-centered, culturally responsive learning

You can expect to provide a resume or CV, 1-3 samples of your artistic work, a sample lesson plan, and 2 references who can speak about your arts education work.

Applications for the 2024-2025 school year are now closed. If you submitted an application before the deadline, you can view it here. Applicants moving forward will receive an interview request via email for a 1-hour Zoom interview. After the interview we will contact your references via email.
